The medical device excise tax (MDET) is a relative newcomer to the excise tax category. Effective starting in 2013, the MDET is a tax on the manufacture or importing of medical devices, but the application is not that straightforward. Businesses that produce or use medical devices need to understand which devices are taxed and which party is responsible for remitting the tax.

In this half-hour presentation, Tom Windram, a partner in RSM's Washington National Tax office, explains how the MDET applies to many businesses and discusses areas that create confusion and situations where businesses may have the opportunity to reduce their MDET exposure.

Learn more about how RSM's medical device excise tax services can help your business control costs and mitigate risk related to the MDET.
