Auditor assessment tools available

The Audit Committee Collaboration recently released the External Auditor Assessment Tool: A Reference for Audit Committees Worldwide, which is designed to assist audit committees in evaluating the external auditor to assess the quality of the audit, or to select or recommend the retention of the audit firm. The tool includes sample questions the audit committee could ask to gauge the quality of:

  • Services and sufficiency of resources provided by the auditor
  • Communication and interaction with the auditor
  • The auditor’s independence, objectivity and professional skepticism

The Audit Committee Collaboration also recently published an updated version of the External Auditor Assessment Tool: A Reference for U.S. Audit Committees, which includes a detailed appendix that highlights relevant U.S. requirements and standards.

Members of the Audit Committee Collaboration include the Association of Audit Committee Members, Inc., Center for Audit Quality, Independent Directors Council, National Association of Corporate Directors, NYSE Governance Services, and Tapestry Networks. These organizations share a strong commitment to enhance the effectiveness of audit committees through education and other types of support.
