Jay Hanson Selected as new Board Member for the PCAOB
BLOOMINGTON, MN - Jay Hanson, former partner and national director of accounting with McGladrey & Pullen, LLP, was recently appointed as a new board member of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Hanson began his appointment on February 1, 2011
The PCAOB is a nonprofit corporation established by Congress through the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 to oversee the audits of public companies in order to protect investors and the public interest by promoting informative, accurate and independent audit reports. The PCAOB also oversees the audits of broker-dealer compliance reports under federal securities laws to promote investor protection.
“The PCAOB fulfills a crucial role to ensure financial information provided to investors is fairly presented,” said Hanson. “The PCAOB’s oversight has helped to improve audit quality and strengthen the auditing profession. It’s difficult to leave McGladrey & Pullen after all these years, but I’m deeply honored to be appointed to this important role.”
“We’re proud that out of the thousands of CPA professionals across the country — the SEC chose a McGladrey & Pullen partner,” said Dave Scudder, McGladrey & Pullen’s Managing Partner and CEO. “Jay has made significant contributions to McGladrey & Pullen during his 31 years as an employee and partner, so he will certainly be missed. However, we know that having a person with Jay’s experience and skills on the Board is absolutely critical to the profession. We understand that audit quality and the PCAOB’s role are vital to the needs of investors — and we’re certain that Jay will be a valued contributor.”
Until his appointment to the PCAOB, Jay was Chairman of the American Institute for Certified Public Accountants’ (AICPA) Financial Reporting Executive Committee, and a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board’s (FASB) Emerging Issues Task Force. He has also served in numerous other leadership positions within the profession, and is a frequent presenter on national industry, state society and AICPA conferences.
“Due to his familiarity with the auditing landscape following the Sarbanes-Oxley Act’s enactment, Jay will bring meaningful experience and a unique perspective to the Board’s oversight.” said Scudder. “His experience with McGladrey & Pullen coupled with his extensive contributions to the profession makes him an excellent choice for the PCAOB.”
Hanson graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, with a B.A. in Business Administration, Accounting and Mathematics. He also completed the McGladrey Business Advisor School at the University of Chicago’s Booth Graduate School of Business. Jay is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Minnesota.
