Since joining RSM, I’ve been impacted most by our culture. I’m so grateful to work for a firm that sees the value each person brings to a team.
I am always amazed by the strength of character of our people, and how they demonstrate RSM’s values each day with our clients and each other.

CHICAGO – (October 20, 2020) – The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) recently announced that Richard (Rich) Caturano – national leader of culture, diversity and inclusion with RSM US LLP (RSM), the nation’s leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market – is a recipient of the 2020 AICPA Gold Medal Award of Distinction.
The Gold Medal is the highest honor granted by the AICPA. Since 1944, it has been bestowed upon CPAs whose influence on the accounting profession has been especially notable. Jack Finning, CPA, CGMA, and chair of the AICPA awards committee, presented Caturano with his award during the fall meeting of AICPA’s governing Council.
“We are incredibly proud of and grateful to Rich for his dedication to our firm and to our profession,” said Joe Adams, managing partner and CEO with RSM US LLP. “Rich is passionate about creating a profession that embraces diversity and encourages everyone to bring their authentic selves to work. This recognition couldn’t have been more well-deserved.”
“Rich has had an incredible career and a tremendous impact on the profession and AICPA,” said Finning. “Rich has worked tirelessly to enhance diversity and inclusion within the profession.”
Caturano served a variety of volunteer positions within the profession and AICPA before stepping up as board chair in 2012 and helping to establish the National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion. The commission works to influence the accounting profession to make diversity and inclusion a priority area in recruitment, certification and advancement.
He also founded Vitale, Caturano and Company, and grew the firm to be one of the 40 largest in the U.S. before merging with RSM US LLP in 2010. During his career, he has been a board member of several organizations, and is a former CEO. He is currently a partner at RSM in his culture, diversity and inclusion role. In 2018, the National Association of Black Accountants recognized Caturano with the National Achievement in Public Accounting Award.
A list of previous Gold Medal of Distinction recipients is available on AICPA’s website.
