Plan document maintenance: Why is it important for benefit plans?

Download webcast slides

With regulators requiring plans to be documented in a detailed written plan document, it is imperative that plan sponsors have procedures and controls in place for proper maintenance of the plan document.

For employee benefit plans, the issue is defining plan document maintenance, since much of a plan's operation is outsourced to other service providers.

Our recent paper The importance of plan document maintenance, the second in a series of papers looking at internal controls for employee benefit plans, looks at different types of plan documents and discusses the various means of maintaining them.
